Born in Topeka, Kansas, Melinda Mielock discovered her lifelong passion at just five years old. From the moment she stepped into her first dance class, she knew dance would shape her future. Now with over 30 years of teaching experience, she has trained under many exceptional instructors who helped mold her into the accomplished and inspiring professional she is today.
Melinda’s love for dance extends far beyond teaching. She is an experienced choreographer who delights in creating routines for dancers of all ages and skill levels. Whether preparing for a special event or simply wanting to shine on the dance floor, her choreography blends artistry, technique, and a deep understanding of each dancer’s unique strengths. She remains profoundly grateful to her students and their families, who continue to be a meaningful part of her journey.
At the heart of Melinda’s teaching philosophy is a simple belief: great dancers are built through a balance of technique, passion, dedication, and joy. Her goal is to nurture confidence in every student, offering a safe, friendly, and encouraging environment where dancers can grow, express themselves, and discover the joy of dancing.
Melinda’s professional experience spans both stage and screen. From 2007 to 2010, she helped develop and participated in the United Way’s Dancing with Our Stars (DWOS) event, where she embraced the challenge of transforming non-dancers into performers while supporting a charitable cause. In 2009, she made her stage debut in Ballroom, produced by the Virginia Musical Theatre, Inc. She has also appeared on Investigation Discovery’s Happily Never After as a Ballroom and Jazz dancer and performed in the inaugural Dancing with the Hampton Roads Celebrity Stars event at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts.
Beyond the dance floor, Melinda enjoys singing and performing with the Virginia Coast Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International. The group earned 3rd place internationally in the small chorus division in 2013—an achievement that reflects her dedication to the performing arts in all its forms.

Today, Melinda specializes in teaching Ballroom and Latin dance to both adults and youth throughout the Hampton Roads, Virginia area. She believes dance is for everyone—whether young or young at heart, single or partnered, preparing for a special occasion, or simply seeking a healthier, happier lifestyle. She offers both private and group lessons in Virginia Beach, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for all students.
Melinda teaches all partnership dances, giving beginners a strong, confidence‑building foundation while offering more experienced dancers refined technique, deeper artistry, and advanced skill development. Dancers appreciate her clear teaching style, deep technical knowledge, and ability to help them grow—whether they’re social dancers, competitive performers, or anywhere along that spectrum.
